Amish
Paste 74 days. Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM
An old Amish heirloom dating back to the turn of the century, and
the best for sauces and canning. Bright red fruits, about 8 oz., are
large for canning types, with “real tomato” flavor. Slightly long
and pointed at the end. Excellent
for slicing fresh-not too acidic.
Andrew Rahart’s Jumbo Red 90 days. Indeterminate
So juicy, so sweet, so delicious this huge beefsteak is best
eaten straight from the hand to enjoy its fresh-from-the-garden flavor.
Smother a sandwich with our juicy, jumbo beefsteak, with just a slight
hint of tartness. Disease-resistant, sturdy vines support intensely
bright red, smooth-skinned, 4" fruits, of 12 to 24 ounces each.

Black from Tula 80-85 days. Determinate. A Russian HEIRLOOM
described as “the ugliest, most delicious tomato ever grown.
Rich, full flavor makes this a favorite for slicing and fresh
usage. Great yields of

Produces over the summer into the fall.
Black Krim 69 days, Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM from the Black Sea
region of Russia. A most
unusual novelty. Fruits are a dark, deep red with dark green shoulders.
Interior is a deep red, reddish green color.
Sweet and tasty. Extremely early medium sized.
Voted, “Best tasting Tomato for 1998.
Black
Sea Man 74 days, Determinate. Small
plants, medium-sized deep brown fruits, rich in flavor, Looks incredibly
odd when blanched and peeled, reveling skeleton-like veins under the
skin. Potato-leaved and
determinate. Outstanding in salads and sandwiches.
Brandywine, Pink (SUDDUTH/QUISENBERRY STRAIN) - (80 days)
Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM. The most popular heirloom. Prized for it's
distinctively flavored fruit. Dark reddish, pink, large 1-2 lb. fruit.
Grow on vigorous potato leaf plants. Not particularly disease
resistant. "As fine a tasting tomato as ever was grown," said
tomato guru Ben Quisenberry who got the seed from Mrs. Sudduth.It had
been in her family over 100 yrs. Perennial winner of taste tests around
the country. Legendary Amish heirloom from the 1880's.
Black Brandywine 80-120 days, Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM a “tried and
true member of the Brandywine family, with large, oval, well formed
fruits that have received “best flavor” honors in numerous contests.
An unusual and prolific yielder, with superb, almost black fruits
that are novel without sacrificing one ounce of their “real tomato
taste”.
Yellow
Brandywine 90-100 days. Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM Prolific yields of
large, 12 to 24 ounce, flattened, golden-yellow fruits, somewhat
irregular with excellent flavor. Excellent creamy texture, perfect for
gourmet cuisine. Very vigorous potato-leaf plants.
Bush
Celebrity 67
days. Determinate Ever-popular Celebrity, considered by many to be the
finest tomato variety, now has a "bush" namesake worthy of its
many fine qualities. Abundant, large, flavorful fruits on plants just
15" tall set new standards of their own, maturing a few days
earlier than Celebrity and ripening from the inside out with no green
shoulders. Sweet, glossy red fruits averaging 8 to 9 ozs. with that
famous Celebrity flavor that perfectly balances sugars and acids. Even
stronger disease resistance than Celebrity, and an ability to set fruits
under many growing conditions.
Bush Early Girl
54 days, Determinate. Extreme earliness in a compact, patio-typed plant that
delivers yield after yield of firm. Meaty, flavorful fruits. Bright red fruits are a full 4inches in diameter, and a truly
sweet to the taste. Every
bit as well bred as the original Early Girl. Good container plant or for small gardens.
Caspian Pink 80 days, Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM “The first tomato to
beat Brandywine in taste”. A wonderful Amish treasure generally
considered to be the world’s finest flavored tomato.
This heirloom has beaten Brandywine for 3 straight years in
trials in California. Originally
grown in Russia in the Caspian and Black Sea regions.
Cherokee Purple 80-90 days, Indeterminate. Unusual medium
pink-purple (brown) fruit averaging 8 to 12 oz, are round to oblate,
with. Exhibits tolerance to
mild drought and tolerance to common disease.
One of the very best full flavored tomato. Another of Steve
Goto’s Favorites.
Costoluto Genovese 90 days, Indeterminate. An excellent performer in
both open air and greenhouses. Vigorous plants produce heavily ribbed,
firm, fleshy fruits weighing up to 7oz, with fine, sweet flavor.
Good disease resistance.
Dad’s
Mug 90 days, Indeterminate. Large
mug-shaped pink-red fruits with thick walls and very few seeds.
A paste tomato that can be used for stuffing. Mild flavor. Good shelve life. This was a surprise at
our taste testing for flavor.
Dr. Carolyn 75 days Indeterminate.
Named in honor of Dr. Carolyn Male, author of the book 100
Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden, this wonderful ivory-colored
cherry tomato produces fruit to 1 inch in diameter.
Ivory-white deepening to pale yellow. The flavor is not just
sweet, but also complex and nicely balanced with acid.
Very productive vines.
Druzba 80 days,
Indeterminate. Bulgarian HEIRLOOM translates as “friendship” round
slightly flattened fruit grow to 4in in diameter.
Complex flavor of sweet and acid.
Good yields of meaty fruit.
This is one of Steve Goto’s favorites for salads and
sandwiches.
Garden
Peach 70 days, Indeterminate
small 2 oz. delicate and meaty fruit. Really does have a peach color
outside. Hint of red inside. Very mild-sweet taste. Light fuzz on fruit
and leaves. A very pretty novelty tomato.
Giant Syrian 80 days. Indeterminate. Nice yields of deep pinkish-red globe shaped fruits that
often exceed one pound. Fruits
are very meaty, few seeds and very good flavor.
Giant Oxheart 90 days, Indeterminate. Large, 12oz to 2 pounds, firm, meaty, heart-shaped, rosy-pink
fruits have thick walls, few seeds and mild flavor. Vigorous vines
produce high yields of late-maturing fruits, weighing up to 3 pounds.
Gourmet Yellow Stuffer 80 days, Indeterminate.
Resembles a golden pepper with seeds clustered near the top.
Core removes easily for stuffing.
Mild flavor, Good yields. Australian origin.
Green
Grape 70 days, Determinate. Pioneering development by a leading
European seed specialist has given us the first, fully ripened green
cherry tomato. Fruits are
just under 1in across, profusely borne on vigorous plants.
Very juicy and sweet. A
natural for green sauces, soups, garnishes, ketchup, hors d’oeuvres
and more. Was very popular
at taste testing.
Green Zebra 78 days, Indeterminate. The most unusual variety you’ll ever grow. Fully ripe
fruits are bright green, with stripes of a still lighter green and
golden yellow to orange. Round, smallish, 2 to 4 oz fruits have
excellent, “real Tomato” flavor.
Plants are vigorous, producing good yields.
Heatwave VFFA Hybrid 68
days. Determinate This heat-tolerant variety bears
early harvests and yields best when daytime temperatures are between 90
and 96 degrees F. The tomatoes are uniformly red, average 7 oz., and are
quite abundantly produced. Especially well-suited for the Southeast and
other warm areas.
Isis Candy 67 days, Indeterminate
This delightful variety produces yellow-gold cherry tomatoes with red
marbling. Marbling varies from just a red blush to extensive streaking
inside and out. What is consistent, however, is the sweet taste that is
also rich and fruity, and very delicious. Tomatoes are about 3/4 inch
across and are round to oblate in shape. Very productive plants bear
throughout a long season. .
Kelloggs
Breakfest 80-85 days, Indeterminate. A perfect choice for those who
equally value the appearance and flavor of the dishes they prepare. A lovely pale-orange fruit that are solid and meaty, packed
with mild superb taste. A long season producer of large, beefsteak like
fruit, up to 16oz. Solid
centers with few seeds at the edges.
Marizol Gold 80-90 days, Indeterminate. From the Black Forrest region in Germany, this variety was
brought to America in late 1800. This vigorous vine produce medium-large
well formed ribbed fruit. Yellow-red bi-color.
Marizol Purple 80 days, Indeterminate This HEIRLOOM variety come
from the Black Forrest region of Germany, who’s smooth, dark,
purplish-pink fruits are meltingly sweet.
Large sweet fruits average 8 oz. To about a pound. and will
continue to set fruit until frost.
Momotaro 78 days. Indeterminate. Full sun. Developed in Japan for
its delicious flavored qualities, this light pink fruit has a perfect
sugar to acid balance that has produced the best distinctive taste of
all the tomatoes produced to date. Vigorous vine produces very high
yields.
Moneymaker
77 days. Indeterminate. HEIRLOOM. One of the oldest heirloom
varieties in the world. Smallish fruits to
½ oz are bright red. Smooth, round, uniform, meaty and
flavorful. Clustered in groups of 6 to 10 fruits. Outstandingly
reliable.
Mortgage Lifter 75-85 days. Indeterminate. Also called Radiator
Charlie. Long-time favorite with good yields of very large, smooth,
pink-skinned fruits even in droughts. Very meaty fruits with few seeds,
much like Giant Belgium, but not quite as large. Very mild, delectable,
sweet flavor.
Mortgage Lifter-Estlers- 85 days - Indeterminate regular leaf Pink-
Huge, (1# and considerably over when well grown) fruit with excellent
flavor. This one is said to be older than Radiator Charlie's. It
reportedly goes back to 1922 and is a considerably bigger plant with
larger fruit than "Charlie's" and seems much more prolific.
These seeds came from "Bob" Estler, the Son of
"Bill," Estler who originated the variety. Seed of this
variety was sent to Australia in the thirties by the Estlers' is
probably the ancestor of the Australian variety Mortgage Lifter which
has evolved considerably. I find Estlers' Mortgage Lifter to be the
biggest and most prolific of the eleven Mortgage Lifter strains which I
have grown. There seems to be little, if any, difference in taste.
Mr.
Stripey 80 days. Indeterminate. Red and yellow striped HEIRLOOM
variety adds colors to any gourmet salad bar.
Large, ridge-shouldered fruits are mild flavored fruits and very
low in acid.
Nebraska Wedding 90-100 days, Determinate.
An old Great Plains Heirloom reintroduced. Plants produce many
huge, globe-shaped fruits of a deep orange color, weighing up to 10
ounces each. Vigorous plants yield a heavy concentrated set of fruit.
Well-balanced flavor
Odoriko 76 days.
Indeterminate. Japanese variety with pink, medium to large, round
fruits. Vigorous plants are quite disease resistant and productive.
Beautiful tomatoes are richly flavored, sweet yet tangy.
Red Currant 65 days. Indeterminate. Actually a different plant
species, Lycospericon pimpinfolium, than garden tomatoes, but capable of
crossing with them. These pea-sized fruits- just ¼ inch in diameter-
possess a crunchy, fruity flavor that is ideal for salads and snacks.
More vigorous vines than the shattering-type, 15 to 20 fruits are
produced per branching cluster, with loads of flowers putting on a show
in late June.
Red
Pear 70 days. Determinate. One of the rarest of the heirloom
varieties still grown today, these hardy, determinate, medium-sized
plants yield plenty of small, red, pear shaped fruits with few seeds
San Marzano 80 days.
Indeterminate. More rectangular-shaped paste-type and slightly later
than Roma. Truly excellent flavor for soups, sauces and catsup. Fruits
(3-1/2” by 1-1/2”) are intense red and hang in large clusters that
hold well on the vine or in storage. Perfect for canning with extra high
solids content.
Silvery
Fir Tree 58 days, Determinate.
Unusual Russian variety. Distinctive
carrot-like silvery-gray foliage on compact 24” plants. Heavy crops of
round slightly flattened 3-3 1/2” red fruit.
Extremely decorative. Small
plants that produce good yields of fruit.
One of the best varieties for small spaces and containers.
Soldacki 80 days, Indeterminate.
Polish HEIRLOOM brought to Cleveland around 1900.
Potato-leaf plants. Large fruits, dense and meaty. Pinkish-red
flat globes can weigh one pound. Sweet outstanding flavor. Meaty flesh
makes this variety excellent for sandwiches and hamburgers.
Sungold Cherry, 57 days, Indeterminate. Once voted the sweetest
tomato ever by discerning English Gardeners.
A positively luscious, bite size golden beautiful over-flowing
with an abundance of fruits. Thin-skinned,
with a juicy flesh that holds its sweet-fresh-from-the-vine flavor.
Golden orange, small, round, Very early, and a heavy cropper both
indoors and in greenhouses. Cascading trusses are smothered in fruits that remain ripe
and ready for picking over long periods of time.
Sweet Olive F-1
57 days, Indeterminate. Sweet, bite-size, firm, oval-shaped grape
tomatoes are bright red and bursting with flavor. Outstanding in our
grape tomato trial for color, flavor, texture, and preferred
small size. Strong tolerance to heat, humidity, and cracking.
Yellow Pear 78 days. Indeterminate. Vigorous vines produce high
yields of 2 inch, yellow-skinned, pear-shaped fruits with few seeds.
Slightly later than Red Pear, but with the same prolific yields and
dependable performance.
